A part of the University of Arkansas System, the University of Arkansas at Monticello is a public open admissions university in Monticello, Arkansas. Founded in 1909 as the Fourth District Agricultural School, UAM is proud to provide quality higher education opportunities and develop key relationships that contribute to the economy and quality of life in the community, region, state, and beyond. The university offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate academic programs in which students can earn associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees as well as technical certificates and certificates of proficiency. The University of Arkansas at Monticello College of Technology-McGehee, formerly Great Rivers Technical Institute, is a public two-year post-secondary institution that provides academic and occupational/technical programs, services, and resources for the residents of a seven-county service area and is located at 1609 East Ash in McGehee approximately 28 miles east of Monticello.

The Monticello Occupational Education Center staff believes that every citizen should have a marketable skill. This school is one of the institutions available to citizens of this area established and operated by the Arkansas Vocational Education Division and the Monticello School District. This school is established to provide the opportunity for students in this area to train and develop marketable skills in the areas of training offered here. Successful completion of training programs offered by the school will result in the development of acceptable attitudes, work habits, and technical knowledge.

Drew Central School District is a public school district located in the City of Monticello. It serves students in rural Drew County and a small section of Monticello. It is located in a section of the Monticello city limits, adjacent to the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM). It resides on 32 acres of land that is leased by the University. Drew Central consists of 4 schools: Drew Central Pre-K, Drew Central Elementary School, Drew Central Middle School and Drew Central High School. It serves roughly 1,120 students.
