The Monticello Tree Board was created under the authority of Monticello City Code § 21-71 et seq (Ordinance 752 11/20/08). Each of the Board's seven (7) members serve two (2) year terms. Members are appointed by the mayor with approval from the Monticello City Council and consist of at most two (2) members from forestry industry and non-residents of Monticello.
The duties of the Board are to study, investigate, consult, develop, update annually a written plan for care , protection, pruning, planting or removal of trees and shrubs in parks, and in other public area. The plan will include standards for tree planting and care. Such plan will be presented annually to the city council an upon their acceptance and approval shall constitute the official comprehensive tree management plan.
The Tree Board meets the fourth Thursday of the month at 5:30pm in Conference Room A101 in the Chamberlin Forest Resources Complex on the University of Arkansas at Monticello's campus.
