The Monticello Cemetery Board was created under the authority of Arkansas Code Annotated § 20-17-901 et seq and Monticello City Code § 13-30 to 40 (Ordinance 785 2/25/14). Each of the Board's five (5) members serve four (4) year terms. Members are appointed by the mayor with approval from the Monticello City Council and consist of no more that two (2) members from the owners or directors of the funeral industry.
The duties of the Board are to advise City Council in the management, care, and development of a municipal cemetery (Oakland Cemetery). The Board is allowed to sale burial rights to the cemetery and is charged for establishing pricing and collecting funds to manage the cemetery.
The Cemetery Board meets the forth Thursday of the month at 6:00pm at the City Hall.
